What if I don’t have 2 years at UC Merced?
This program relies upon your awareness and familiarity with the campus, your leadership challenges, and areas for improvement within your division, department, or unit. We do require at least 2 years at the campus. Feel free to explore other development opportunities within the Talent Development unit and apply once you have 2 years on campus.
Can we nominate participants?
Yes. You can nominate others or self-nominate to Peak Pioneers Leadership Program.
How are participants selected?
The program selection committee admits up to 24 participants—staff and academic personnel—with 4 alternates.
I’ve only led teams (no direct reports) so should I apply?
Yes. Leaders can impact from wherever they are in the organization. Leadership experience or exposure (team lead, project lead, or initiative lead, etc.) will be good foundations for the development and reflective growth opportunities in Peak Pioneers.
How is this program different from Institute for Inclusive Excellence (IIE) or Peak Pioneers (P2)?
Peak Pioneers (P2) is for supervisors or managers and focuses on Leadership, Communication, Team Building, Organizational Effectiveness, and Performance Management. CLA focuses on specific higher education, university, academic, fiscal, and development needs at UC Merced and requires project work with related applications and opportunities to apply practice in the relevant competencies. The Institute for Inclusive Excellence (IIE) focuses on equity, justice, and inclusive excellence.
Can I get any Continuing Education credit for participating?
Program staff can provide additional support and documentation for relevant continuing education programs or submissions.
