Instructor: Sudha Prathikanti
Sudha Prathikanti, MD, is a diplomat of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. At the University of California, San Francisco, she founded both the Integrative Psychiatry service and the Ayurveda consultation service at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, working there as core faculty from 2003-2011. She continues to teach at UCSF as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, and her research on treating depression with yoga has been featured in local and national media.
Workshop #1: Cultivating Optimal Health
This series of workshops focuses on the promotion of vibrant health through individualized attention to one’s nutrition, physical activity, circadian rhythms, seasonal and environmental influences, psychological propensities, and mind-body practices, guided by modern Psychiatry, Medicine, and Ayurveda. Ayurveda is an ancient system for health and healing originating in India and practiced continuously for over 5000 years. In the Sanskrit language, Ayurveda means “wisdom of living,” and Ayurveda guides you in the discovery of optimal health, vitality and longevity through wise lifestyle choices in harmony with your unique constitution.
Participants in the workshops will:
* Determine your unique Ayurvedic constitution;
* Develop a health-promoting Ayurvedic lifestyle plan tailored to your constitution;
* Prepare nutritious Ayurvedic menus in balance with your constitution; and
* Learn Ayurvedic yoga poses for your constitution.
Workshop #2:MOVE
MOVE is a yoga workshop focused on specialized movement techniques to support your individual constitution.
Workshop #3: EAT
EAT is a cooking workshop where participants will prepare a meal based on their individual constitution. We will provide participants with basic cooking equipment, fresh ingredients, and a range of household herbs and spices with medicinal properties, such as cinnamon, cumin, cloves, salt, turmeric, ginger, garlic, fenugreek seeds, onion, mint, black pepper, and honey.
Workshop #4: RELAX
RELAX is a workshop guiding participants in self-soothing practices and meditation.
