Career Advising Certificate Program

Overview

This professional development program offers staff working with students an opportunity to enroll in a career advising-centered program comprised of 8 required courses offered over the fall and spring semesters. Participants who complete this program will receive a Career Advising Certificate from the Office of Leadership, Service and Career.

Staff that work in the arena of student success are in the best position to help students come to an understanding about the relationships between academic and career choices and to instill that change is now a "Constant" and lifelong learning, whether through informal or informal training is expected.

About the Program

The goal of this program is to expose staff to Student Success in relation to career and professional development for students. In particular:  Career Development Theories, Career Resources, Career Decision-Making Models, Career Self-Assessment Instruments, Current Practices, and examples of modern Career Centers.

The program's objective is to provide Student Success staff with Career Advising skills and best practices that help students come to an understanding of the relationships between academic and career choices and how to approach career decision-making.

How to apply?

Program currently on hiatus – will return to active programming in 2024. 

Registration

  • Log in to the UC Learning Center using your UC Merced Net ID.
  • Search for Career Advising Certificate (or individual class name) and click "Register" to see detailed information such as schedule and location.
  • Select the class(es) you are interested in and click "Submit"
  • Note: A participant screening will be conducted and priority will be given to registered participants from Student Affairs and Schools Academic Advising teams.
