UPDATE: Anthem, Dignity Agree to Contract

Anthem Blue Cross, the insurance carrier of the University of California's PPO health plans, has reached an agreement with Dignity Health on a continuing contract. The agreement, announced Monday, is retroactive to July 15, 2021.

The agreement returns Dignity Health facilities to Anthem health plans, while protecting affordability for members. Mercy Medical Center in Merced is affiliated with Dignity Health.

The retroactive aspect of the agreement means any care provided to Anthem members over the last month will be considered in-network. There will be no disruption of care, and UC PPO members do not need to take additional action. Anthem administers the UC Care, UC Health Savings and CORE plans, along with UC Medicare PPO (with or without prescription drug coverage).

All claims incurred since July 15 by UC PPO plan members were held by Anthem as contract negotiations continued in good faith. With the agreement, members’ claims will be processed and covered by Anthem at the in-network coverage level. UC PPO members will be responsible for the in-network member expense cost-sharing for services.

Anthem Health Guide is informed of the contract renewal. Members can find help with UC PPO plan questions by calling Anthem at (844) 437-0486. Coverage details are on the UC PPO plans page. Select your PPO plan, go to the menu and select About the (your plan) Plan to see coverage details.
